What to Know About San Francisco Bay Barge Rentals: Choosing the Right Vessel for the Job
When it comes to heavy-lift marine logistics, construction support, or materials transport in the San Francisco Bay, having the right barge can make or break your project. At Westar Marine Services, we’ve been supporting maritime operations since 1976, and we know that no two jobs are the same — especially when it comes to choosing the right barge.
Meet the Nokea: Westar Marine’s Newest High-Horsepower Tug Joins the Fleet
Westar Marine Services is proud to welcome a powerful new addition to our fleet: the Nokea, a 105-foot twin-engine tugboat purpose-built for strength, safety, and serious marine performance. With a bollard pull of 110,000 lbs. and 4,400 horsepower, Nokea represents a major boost to Westar’s towing and project support capabilities across the San Francisco Bay and beyond.
Going Viral in McCovey Cove
During the first inning of the Giants vs. Cubs game, NBC Sports Bay Area cameras cut to McCovey Cove, where one of Westar Marine Services’ water taxis, the Madison Lynne, was spotted pulling up right beside the ballpark’s portwalk. In a moment that quickly went viral, a man stepped off the vessel, casually climbed over the railing, and walked into the ballpark — just in time for the game.
Supporting Innovation at Sea
Earlier this summer, Westar Marine Services proudly supported a major milestone in maritime innovation: the successful deployment of a self-powered ocean buoy in Monterey Bay in collaboration with the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), Ocean Power Technologies (OPT), and AT&T.
A New Era Begins
Since 1976, Westar Marine Services has been a cornerstone of the San Francisco Bay maritime industry, delivering trusted tug, barge, and vessel support services with professionalism and heart. This year marks the beginning of a new chapter, as longtime co-owners Mary McMillan and Wendy Morrow step into retirement after more than four decades of visionary leadership.
