Going Viral in McCovey Cove
Westar Marine’s Madison Lynne Makes a Surprise Game-Day Appearance
Westar Marine’s Madison Lynne Makes a Surprise Game-Day Appearance
San Francisco Giants fans are known for their creative entrances — but one recent arrival at Oracle Park made waves in more ways than one.
During the first inning of the Giants vs. Cubs game, NBC Sports Bay Area cameras cut to McCovey Cove, where one of Westar Marine Services’ water taxis, the Madison Lynne, was spotted pulling up right beside the ballpark’s portwalk. In a moment that quickly went viral, a man stepped off the vessel, casually climbed over the railing, and walked into the ballpark — just in time for the game.
Not Your Average Drop-Off
Broadcast commentators Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow couldn’t help but join in on the fun:
“That’s door-to-door service right there,” Krukow quipped.
“You come in on the Madison Lynne, you’re something special,” added Kuiper.
The moment was picked up across social media and Reddit, with users jokingly calling it an “expensive ass Uber.” And while the ride might’ve looked spontaneous, it turns out it wasn’t quite open to the public.
According to Westar’s dispatcher and unofficial social media manager, Jamie Horton, the drop-off wasn’t a normal part of operations. Horton explained that Westar’s water taxi service typically serves crew transfers and ship support across the Bay Area — not front-row Giants game drop-offs.
“We’re a 24/7 service with four water taxis, doing about 10–12 runs a day,” Horton shared. “This one just happened to get caught on camera — and it blew up.”
Home Base Just Steps from Oracle Park
Westar Marine Services is headquartered at Pier 50, right next to the ballpark. “We could literally throw a rock to the stadium,” Horton said — which explains why a drop-off that close, while rare, was technically possible.
The man in question? Horton said he’s a ship captain who had just completed a delivery at anchor and asked for a lift to the game — someone the Westar team had worked with “on numerous occasions.”
A Fun Moment, A Serious Operation
While the Madison Lynne’s cameo brought laughs and likes, it also highlighted something important: Westar’s marine launch service is a trusted, efficient operation that’s been running the Bay since 1976. Whether it’s transporting ship crews, moving supplies, or offering on-demand water taxi services for industrial partners, Westar combines professionalism with local expertise — and every now and then, a bit of game-day flair.
